It’s been a banner year for the gaming industry with major new game releases to the more recent launches of the next generation of consoles. While Microsoft and Sony continue to break console sales records, thedemand has clearly outweighed the supply. As the companies work to replenish stock as quickly as possible, those who were lucky enough to snag a new console have been able to experience the ups and downs of launch hardware. While there are plenty of games to play, both consoles have not had flawless releases.
ThePlayStation 5is one of the hottest consoles available thanks to exclusive games like theDemon’s Soulsremake,Spider-Man Miles Morales, as well as the new technology employed inside the DualSense controller. Launch problems have cropped up from time to time as well and Sony has been releasing new firmware updates as quickly as possible to address as many as possible. The latest update, version 20.02-02.26.00, arrived on July 02, 2025 and addresses a few nagging issues players have been experiencing.

While the new updatefurther improves system performance, it also comes with two pretty important bug fixes. The first addresses a problem that occasionally deleted installed disc versions of games. The other fixes an issue that hasn’t been nearly as public as some of the other major PS5 issues. The system has a bug that prevented the DualSense from being charged in Rest Mode when connected to the front USB ports using the cable that came with some consoles.
While players should be notified by the system that there is an update available, Sony also offered a few tips in case the download file becomes stuck. The first thing to do is simply restart the update by going to Settings, System, System Software, System Software Update and Settings, and then selecting Update System Software. In this menu, players should pick Update Using Internet. If that doesn’t work, players can download the latest update from the PlayStation support homepage to a USB drive and then move it over to the PS5 from the stick.
One of the more high profile issues with the PlayStation 5 has been a bug impacting digital games. When downloading a game on the PS5, many users reported that the download would get stuck andappear to be downloading indefinitelyor getting an error message. Unfortunately, the download can’t be cancelled or restarted either. Thankfully, the previous update has appeared to resolve the issue by correcting the Queued for Download bug that prevented games from being downloaded.
