Nintendo has released a behind-the-scenes video to give fans a look at the human musicians and vocalists who came together to record “Clickbait,” a song that features prominently on theSplatoon 3soundtrack. AlthoughSplatoon 3is primarily a game about squids splatting ink all over the place, music is a big part of the overall experience.
Released in September 2022,Splatoon 3is the latest installment in the arcade shooter series that found remarkable success with its first installment on the underperforming Wii U. Players are able to engage in a less violent sort of versus multiplayer, where the floors run orange, purple, green, and blue with ink. The franchise’s early success has carried through to the latest installment. The month after its release,Splatoon 3became Japan’s best-selling game of 2022.

Splatoon 3carries forward a musical tradition by featuring aural selections from fictional bands, including one group called C-Side that was spotlighted in a behind-the-scenes video showing the actual humans responsible for the fictional band’s sound. InSplatoon 3’s lore, the three members of C-Side lack musical training, but they have become a hit thanks to their natural talent and ambition. They certainly have big shoes to fill, after Off the Hook fromSplatoon 2became one of themost iconic fictional bands in games. Eclipsing the success found by their predecessors may prove difficult for C-Side, however, becauseSplatoon 3introduced several musical acts at once.
Since music plays a big role inSplatoon 3’s ongoing success, it’s no wonder Nintendo is giving fans more of what they want. The company just announced theSplatoon 3art book and soundtrack have release dates, with both due to arrive later this year in Japan. The soundtrack itself, entitledSplatune 3, includes four discs of music. There’s currently no word on whether either product will become available to purchase and enjoy outside of Japan. The art book includes 400 pages of imagery and accompanying text, so a proper localization might be a prohibitively tall order, but the franchise is successful enough worldwide to potentially justify a wider release for the soundtrack.
Nintendo also recently announced theSplatoon 3Expansion Pass will add two waves of DLC, including the beloved Inkopolis location. Pearl and Marina from Off the Hook are expected to make an appearance, which means C-Side could find itself fading into the background before long. Even if that possible fate becomes reality, a behind-the-scenes sendoff is a welcome treat for fans who fell in love with C-Side’s energetic pop/rock sound. It’s nice to finally be able to put a non-squid face to the music.
