The following contains major spoilers for the Spy x Familymanga, which is published in English byViz Media. There are also spoilers for the anime Spy X Family, which is now streaming onCrunchyroll.
Spy x Family had a well-received first cour during the Spring 2022 anime season, with the second cour already announced for October. There has already been a trailer released, and the season ended on a cliffhanger introduction of a new and incredibly important character. Thankfully, as the anime follows the manga faithfully, what will happen in the second cour should be easy to predict.

Spy X Familyis a comedy slice-of-life spy anime, adapted from a manga written by Tatsuya Endo and is currently serialized in Shounen Jump. It features the daily adventures of a spy using the alias Loid Forger, who in order to blend induring an important missionmust pretend to have a family. He accomplishes this by adopting a young girl named Anya, who is secretly an esper, and by swiftly marrying Yor Briar, a city hall clerk who is a professional assassin at night. Everyone’s identities are hidden from each other, except for Anya, who can read minds and therefore knows everyone’s true thoughts and intentions. The first season of the animeended after thirteen episodesand has only grown in popularity since. The manga shows no signs of ending soon either, and if the anime continues to adapt roughly the same amount of chapters each season, there should be at least a couple more seasons in the franchise’s future.

Examining The Trailer
The anime’s official trailer is less than a minute long, butconfirms elements and storylines from the manga. For one, the Doggy Crisis arc is confirmed to be continued, but more on that later. Most of the trailer features the crisis part of the Doggy Crisis arc, in which a terrorist group led by Keith Kepler, the main antagonist for this specific arc. Keith Kepler is the leader of a terrorist organization from Berlint University who wants to bring an end to Westalis by killing Minister Brantz, and starting a war between them and Ostania.
More on the doggy part of the Doggy Crisis Arc will be examined as well, as the anime adaption hasn’t skimped out on the slice-of-life elements within the series. The Forgers adopt a dog named Bond,as in Bondman from Anya’s favorite show, who much like Anya was an experiment given up on, foreshadowing more of the world our characters live in. Bond can see into the future for brief glimpses, and as Anya can read minds she can see these glimpses through Bond as well.

In-Depth View Of The Doggy Crisis Arc
Part of the Doggy Crisis Arc is covered in the later half of the first cour, which aired this spring. The official arc begins when Loid, worried Anya will not be able to get a Stella Star through academics, takes Anya out to earn a Stella Star through community service. This is, of course, when Anya failed repeatedly at many community service acts. She finds a boy drowning in the physical therapy pool and jumps after him, although unable to swimLoid swims after her and saves them both. As Anya is the one who found him and tried to save him regardless of her swimming skills, she receives a Stella Star for heroics instead.
After this, only snippets of the arc ended up at the end of the anime. To reward Anya for her bravery, Loid and Yor decide to get a dog for Anya. During the last few episodes of the anime,we see glimpses of Bond, a fluffy oversized dog later adopted by the Forgers, however, we will discuss him more later once the family adopts him. While the family searches for their own dog, terrorists from Berlint University begin collecting dogs to transport bombs to start their desired war against Westalis and Ostania.

Loid disguises himself as one of these terrorists, Keith Kepler, to gain information about the plot from another member. While Loid is doing this, Yor and Anya go to an adoption fair and briefly encounter Bond, who has a brief telepathic connection with Anya that causes him to see a glimpse into the futurewhere he is with all three of the Forgers. Anya then follows this dog she connected with telepathically and follows him straight to the terrorist’s hideout, where she is caught spying on them.
Bond ends up protecting Anya when the terrorists mention taking her out, and bringing her to safety. When Yor goes looking for Anya, she finds her on the back of Bond just as they are attacked by the terrorists once again. Yor takes out a member who is going after Anya and reports the incident to the police. Anya reads Bond’s mind and watches his vision of Loid being blown up and Minister Brantz being assassinated, leading Anya and Bondrushing to stop the explosion from happeningin the first place.
Although Loid is sent after the bomb with other agents from WISE, Anya and Bond reach the bomb before he does. She leaves a symbol for Loid to let him know there is a trapped door, and when Loid comes across this sign decides to head towards Minister Brantz instead to protect the important member of the Westalian government. Keith Kepler follows Loid, forcing Loid into a car accident, leaving Loid to run to his destination on foot.
In response, Keith sends a bomb dog after Loid. Loid saves the dog from the bomb by removing the bomb and tossing it into the water, and throws the dog into the dumpster as a makeshift bomb shelter. After this Keith tries to drive away, however, Yor astoundingly kicks his car off of the road, and reports to the police a final time, saying the terrorist got into an accident. When WISE comes to retrieve all the bomb dogs, however, Anya knows that her going to school is detrimental to Loid’s main mission and threatens to stop going to school if she does not get to keep her fluffy white dog friend. Bond is adopted on the spot by the Forgers, and is given his name.
