Despite being subject to a short delay, Respawn Entertainment’sStar Wars Jedi: Survivoris still moving forward with new gameplay and previews. This sequel toJedi: Fallen Ordercontinues the story of Cal Kestis, a rugged Jedi struggling to evade the Galactic Empire, and the latest information suggests that this story will be referencing the Jedi Order from centuries past in addition to those that survived Order 66. Survival seems to be an overarching theme in the game’s narrative, taking on multiple meanings within its timeline. Furthermore,Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s non-linearity is now allowing players to explore this story with optional areas known as Jedi Chambers.

Jedi Chambers were recently revealed in a developer interview with IGN, and in this footage, viewers got their first peek at an underground training facility teeming with Force Echoes and collectibles. Design director Jeff Magers at Respawn described how players should expect a combination of traversal and Force-based challenges in completing these puzzle rooms. What’s even more interesting is that the chambers are also hundreds of years old, implying that they were abandoned long before the events oftheStar Warsprequel trilogy. This fact only adds to the mystery ofJedi: Survivor’s plot, as many fans are left wondering how these ancient ruins will tie into Cal’s mission against the Empire.

Unlocking Star Wars Secrets in Jedi: Survivor

Using the power of psychometry, Cal Kestis is a protagonist who can glimpse into past events with relative ease. This power comes into play in his descent into the Jedi Chamber on Koboh, and players might be excited about experiencing the history of those areas through Force Echoes. The memories of the ancient Jedi could inform theworld design ofJedi: Survivor, offering relevant insight into the trials of these dedicated Force users. The Jedi Order faced many dangers in its time, including the Nameless - a creature powerful enough to manipulate or destroy a Jedi’s connection with the Force. It’s possible that Cal would want to keep these kinds of threats out of the Empire’s hands.

Apart from expository Force Echoes, players will also find collectibles that affect Cal’s powers along with some additional relics called “datadiscs.” Perks are in the mix as well, rewarding players with unique upgrades for completing Jedi Chambers. More specifically, a perk called “Dexterity” is shown and apparently brings some important twists to Cal’s fighting style. Previousgameplay details forJedi: Survivorhave shown evolved combat and exploration, but customization appears to be a larger focus too.

It isn’t clear yet how perks will differ from one another, though it does indicate that these puzzle rooms may have varying themes. The gold-trimmed, enchanted architecture of Jedi Chambers hints at a Jedi Order that was once in its prime, and with hundreds of years to cover,Jedi: Survivormight be digging into the High Republic Era or even more distant time periods. The sequel’s perks could put Cal in touch with long-forgotten techniques, connecting to the Jedi’s training against greater foes like the ancient Sith, the anarchistic Nihil, or the mysterious Drengir. After all,Jedi: Fallen Orderreferenced severalStar Warscharacters, and it utilized existing source material to its benefit.

How Jedi Chambers May Fit Into Jedi: Survivor’s Worldbuilding

Jedi: Survivoris anticipated to be an impactful entry inStar Warslore, introducing characters and plot points that could shed further light on the setting. As the franchise’s name suggests, many wars took place throughout the universe’s history; if these abandoned chambers are evenly distributed throughout the main narrative, it could indicate that the Jedi were training for conflicts that were never totally resolved.Jedi: Survivor’s Gen’dai antagonist, Rayvis, is a character who may have lived for multiple millennia, and he might also possess a deeper knowledge of those ruins' purpose - more so than Cal, at least.

The Jedi Knights are an essential part of theStar WarsIP, and due to the peacekeepers' mythical reputation, they still remain interesting to fans decades after the first film.
