Summary
Star Wars: Skeleton Crewhas finally leaked some new info for fans curious about this enigmatic new series. But when Disney gives with one hand, the mouse withholds with the other. It seems the show may be facing an unfortunate delay as well.
Relatively little has been revealed about theStar Warsseries thus far, save thatSkeleton Crewstars Jude Law as a complicated adult character(who happens to be a Force user) alongside a younger cast. The idea seems similar to that ofStar Trek: Prodigy, focusing on a misfit group of youths finding a ship and going on adventures throughout the galaxy. Seeing as the show is set during the same period asThe Mandalorian, there will still be plenty of danger for them to stumble into on their journeys. Now, a new glimpse ofSkeleton Crew’s premise finally offers some extra context to the whole thing.

A page from the U.S. Copyright Databank, shared by noted Twitter leakerMandoverse Updates, has revealed a complete synopsis ofStar Wars: Skeleton Crew’s story, and it sounds in line with everything known about the series already. “In the first episode of theSkeleton Crewwe are introduced to four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet and get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy,” the description reads. “Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies, will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.” It has that feel of a classic show directed at younger audiences. But that’s not the only notable bit of info.
The copyright filing also mentions a “Projected Date of Publication” indicating when the series is currently set to release on Disney Plus. DespiteStar Wars: Skeleton Crewwrapping filmingin early 2023, the projected release date is listed as January 2024. Aside from being a whole year after the end of shooting, it’s also a noted delay from the show’s initially slated plans for a 2023 release. It’s certainly not as agonizing of a wait as it could have been. But it could also hint at plans for otherStar Warsmedia.
Skeleton Crewisn’t the only newStar Warsshow on the docket, as theHigh Republic-era seriesThe Acolyteis garnering its own intrigued potential audience. Teasing a much more mature storyline and focusing on Sith characters,The Acolytewill likely be a different show fromSkeleton Crew. Unfortunately,Skeleton Crew’s delay may also indicate thatThe Acolytewill be pushed back until later in the year. Disney’s gotta keep their upcoming slate from getting too crowded, after all.
If nothing else, this wait will make both shows all the more exciting when they finally debut. Fun premise aside,Skeleton Crewhas also enlisted some Oscar-level talentinEverything Everywhere All at Oncedirectors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert to take on at least one episode of the series. That’s not to mentionThe Acolytesupposedly reflects its showrunner’s queer identity, hopefully offering some real mainstream LGBTQ+ representation in the franchise for fans who don’t often see characters like themselves. These are going to be two shows worth waiting for.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crewappears to be shooting for an early 2024 release on Disney Plus.
