Summary

The parents ofStarfieldcan be found in some truly bizarre places, as seen when a player shockingly runs into them in the Astral Lounge on Neon. ThoughStarfieldis a modern Bethesda sandbox through-and-through, the developers have attempted to imbue it with more RPG features thanFallout 4or evenSkyrim. In addition to leveling up and upgrading skills, traits inStarfieldgive powerful bonusesto players that can separate one playthrough from the next. From having bounty hunters occasionally hunt down the player character, to owning a luxurious home with a mortgage that needs to be paid off, traits allowStarfieldplayers to meaningfully personalize their adventure.

One of these traits happens to be “Kid Stuff”, and it saddles player characters with parents that not only crop up in random areas over the course of a playthrough, but also give their child useful items (or even a powerful ship) through the completion of their questline. Even though their wholesome family interactions and marital banter are a good enough reason to pick up the trait, sometimesStarfieldplayers can run into their parents where they least expected to find them.

For mezuki92, who shared their incident on the officialStarfieldsubreddit, it happened to be the Astral Lounge on Neon. The parents were seen enjoying the vibrant nightclub atmosphere, as well as partaking in the illicit drug Aurora, beckoning the player character to give it a try. Though not banned on the corporate-controlled planet of Volii Alpha,Aurora is theStarfieldequivalent to skoomafromThe Elder Scrollsor Jet from theFalloutgames, and is considered to be a contraband item anywhere else in the Settled Systems.

Depending on how players feel about heavy hallucinogens such as Aurora, seeing their parents in the Astral Lounge may well be one of the more troubling experience they could come across in aStarfieldplaythrough. By contrast, they can also find them in the petting zoo on Akila City under less dubious circumstances. Since it counts ascontraband inStarfield, players who want to sell their supply of Aurora will need to upgrade their ship with a Cargo Shield or Jammer Frequency to circumvent a ship scan. Alternatively, they can travel to The Key, the main hub of operations for the Crimson Fleet.

Ultimately, choosing “Kid Stuff” helps enhance a playthrough almost as much asgetting the Adoring Fan inStarfield, and it’s an option worth trying out at least once. Though the appearance of the parents is somewhat limited, especially in terms of having a fixed hairstyle regardless of player preset, this is something thatStarfieldmods are bound to tackle once official modding tools release in early 2024.

Starfieldis available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
