However, there’s a catch: he can’t cast magic. Thankfully, Mash is ridiculously strong to the point where his physical abilities become nigh-magical in the eyes of his classmates.
While at first glance seemingly like a typical magic school anime,Mashle: Magic and Musclestakes the “overpowered protagonist” trope and graces fans with a hilarious fantasy slice-of-life series. However, Mash’s journey to become one of the school’s famed Divine Visionary students is rife with trouble in the form of enemies and rivals inside and outside the Academy. Before Mash gets a peaceful life with his adoptive father, Regro, his physical abilities are tested against the world’s most powerful magicians.

Updated June 16, 2025 by Rhenn Taguiam:Although fans eagerly looking for an anime with a strong protagonist can engage in Mashle’s wild two-season run, the wait for its third season might take too long for fans to endure. After all, Mashle’s hilarious take on the magical school concept with a non-magical protagonist has resulted in quite a comically action-packed ride, where Mashle has continuously taken on enemies who have been left baffled by his insane displays of strength.
However, whenever Mashle is gone, his friends and comrades need to use their unique magical abilities to protect themselves from the immeasurable threat of Innocent Zero. This can prove difficult as Mashle has quite a lot of powerful magic-users, among which includes a skillful puppeteer, a water manipulator, a corpse converted into a carbon-controlling minion, and a swordmaster magician.

It’s unsurprising for a Triple-Liner likeAbel Walkerto head the Lang dorm as its prefect, and especially more so to lead the secretive Magia Lupus, whose primary mission is to steal Coins from other dorms to assert Lang dominance. However, it’s soon revealed that Abel’s third mark is actually a gift from Innocent Zero as part of a mysterious deal. And while Abel is simply a more experienced Double-Liner, he’s no slouch to face. Even without his artificial third line, Abel is a worthy candidate for being a Divine Visionary, of which only a select few are even taken into consideration.
Aside from the power boost of his artificial mark, Abel’s personal Marioness magic makes him a formidable foe. Once he touches a target, they can become his “puppets” - practically controllable through magical strings that are almost nigh-irresistible. This is especially if he unleashes his Marioness Secondth: Harm Puppet that summons a giant demonic puppet that transforms anything within 100 meters into puppets - human or otherwise. However, Abel isn’t as strong a combatant precisely due to his puppets. He doesn’t boast any other remarkable skills without them, and anyone under his control can snap out of it by sheer force of will or if their spinal reflex responds to the puppetteering as magic - both of which are preciselywhy Mash was able to easily beat AbelWalker despite his capabilities.

Most spellcasters inMashleoften have a “major” spellcasting power they like to use, and for the most part,Cell Warhas become quite the challenging foe to face due to his carbon-based Carbo magic. With this ability, Cell War can control carbon to create projectiles and objects, and even instantaneously create barriers and armor for protection. Such is the strength of Carbo that it can resistMash’s attacks, especially when Cell summons Hephaestus to transform his attacks into those of diamond.
However, what’s more compelling about Cell War as a character is his access to various kinds of magic. This might be because Innocent Zero actually created him out of a corpse, turning Cell War into a somewhat fanatical follower with quite a lot of power. Aside from Carbo, Cell War is seen changing his appearance, exerting limited control over others, and even using some form of telekinesis. And while Hephaestus technically turns Cell’s attacks into diamonds, they’re no match for Mash’s rather relentless pursuit.

Domina Bloweliveis introduced as the top student of Walkis Magic Academy, making him a prime candidate for Divine Visionary. However, it would come as a surprise for fans to discover that Domina is actually the fifth son of Innocent Zero, one he specifically molded into someone he could use. As a result, behind Domina’s rather calm demeanor is an excessive anger toward those who are weak, especially evidenced by his wrath toward Mash, who’s supposedly just a magicless lowlife who is somehow capable of impressing his father.
Domina’s annoyance towards Mash seems justified from his perspective, given his immense magical talent. As a son of Innocent Zero, Domina is already blessed with incredible magical prowess. However, Domina can claim any battlefield as his own with Waters - his personal magic that gives him complete domination over water. Thanks to Waters, Domina can not only generate powerful streams of water but also create prisons and powerful lances. When Domina summons Poseidon, he becomes disaster incarnate as he can make multiple water-based attacks. With his Waters Thirds: Poseidon’s Angus Inclination, Domina becomes water himself and is technically invulnerable.

Introduced as quite the eccentric spellcaster and prefect of the Orca Dorm of Easton Magic Academy,Margarette Macaronhas more to hide beneath his food-named facade. Throughout the anime, it’s revealed that Margarette is a prodigy, being able to defeat the strongest 13 to 15-year-olds of other magical schools despite only being nine years old at the time.
As a spellcaster, Margarette has a particular focus when unleashing his immense magic power - this time manifesting as sounds. Through Sound Magic, Margarette can manifest vibrations with physical properties and effects such as stuns, explosions, wind gusts, and even sound energy beams. As someone who is a Double Liner, Margarette can summon a large bell to incapacitate anyone who hears its ringing. Despite his immense strength, he iseasily defeated by Mash.

Chapter 40, Episode 13
Powerset
Divine Visionary, Wandless Magic, Heat Magic Master Swordsman, Enhanced Strength, Immense Magic Power, Triple Liner
Although cheerful in terms of his appearance,Kaldo Gehennais among the most skilled Double-Liners inMashle. Introduced as a member of the Bureau of Magic and a Divine Visionary, he was initially intrigued by Mash’s desire to become a fellow Divine Visionary to the point of risking his life. Kaldo is eventuallyconvinced of Mash’s resolveafter testing his mettle in a confrontation and is generally among the good guys.

However, Kaldo Gehenna is no pushover. As a member of the Bureau of Magic and a Divine Visionary himself, he must possess incredible magical power. Such is his knowledge of magic that he even managed to teach Finn Ames to use healing magic more efficiently. Instead of a wand, Kaldo prefers to use his black sword, which can generate black flames that can never be extinguished. This is very much in tune with his personal spellcraft called Heat Magic, which allows him to manipulate heat around him. Such is his power that he managed to one-shot Galbo Botteri in theEclipse Arcbefore the latter could even start the fight, reflecting on Kaldo’s sheer ruthlessness.
Being the son of the head of the Bureau of Magic,Levis Rosequartzfelt extremely pressured to perform anywhere, making him develop an obsession with winning and punishments. This is also reflected in his obsessive desire to win against anything, to the point of using any means necessary to achieve his goals.

As a Triple-Liner, Levis possesses a tremendous amount of magical power - so massive, in fact, that he can use two wands to release his Magnets and Lightning Magic at the same time. His self-serving nature means Levis can cast spells with no regard for others, allowing him to use these abilities to the fullest extent of their capabilities. As a Triple-Liner, Levis can summon Adamas to acquire much greater control over magnetism and boost his magical power.
Incarcerated
Among the Devil’s Quintuplets,Faminhas quite the most unique appearance. Boasting a purple-whitejester outfit similar to Hisokabut complete with a jingling hat, the ever-smiling Famin doesn’t hesitate to unleash his inner sadist. Being a powerful magician, Famin relies on a deck of cards instead of a wand, using it as a conduit for illusory spells. These cards are extremely sharp and work alongside his circus-themed tools, complete with unnamed spells that allow him to conjure game-like apparatuses and set lethal rules.
However, Famin’s true magic lies inTransparency. This allows him to turn objects invisible and then manipulate these invisible objects to aid in combat. Taking on the motif of a traditional illusionist, Famin uses Transparency to trick opponents into thinking things have vanished or teleported, only to reappear as attacks or shields. Being a triple-liner, Famin can pull off aYu-Gi-Oh!and even do summoning magic, transforming his wand into twin blades and then calling forth a demonic clown that hides Famin’s presence until he strikes. Orter Madl eventually defeats him.

The narcissistic and sadisticDelisasteris the fourth son of Innocent Zero, imbuing him with immense magical power. Not only that, but Innocent Zero’s blood combined with a demonic heart replacement granted Delisaster immense regenerative abilities, practically rendering him near-immortal. These properties easily made Delisaster a threat in theMashlestory, with Finn and Rayne Ames his foes during the Eclipse Arc.
Magic-wise, Delisaster is a triple-liner whose third line is not visible on his face. His magic is Ascalon, granting him the power to conjure and manipulate polearms. Delisaster can launch a barrage of polearms (Rapid Ascalon) or unleash a giant polearm (Large Ascalon) for a fierce attack. Such was his skill with the weapon that he’s proclaimed the World’s Greatest Polearm User - a quality reflected in Athena, his Summon that can make him slice the very air around him. He is eventually defeated by the combined strength of the Ames siblings.

Introduced as someone deathly obsessed with pudding,Epidemis the third son of Innocent Zero and hides a sadistic persona beneath his friendly demeanor. Anyone fooled by his fancy suit is prone to hislove for potions, specifically a magic-deficiency virus capable of draining magic from humans in the world ofMashle.
As though Epidem’s anti-magic potion isn’t enough, his personal magic is attached to the world’s strongest metal: Orihalcos. With this ability, Epidem can create and manipulate Orihalcos to take various forms such as spikes, boulders, and even intricate figures such as a lookalike of Lance Crown’s sister, Anna. Such is the strength of Orihalcos that it can withstand the gravity-altering effects of Graviole. As a triple-liner, Epidem can summon Sisyphus, the God of Cunning, which lets him produce gatling guns that fire Orihalcum at a target. He is defeated by the combined powers of Lance Crown and Dot Barrett.
While series deuteragonistLance Crownis introduced as someone known for his sister complex, healing his sister Anna Crown did indeed become Lance’s main motivation to pursue the status of Divine Visionary. Although Lancebegins the series as Mash’s rival, he becomes one of his more dependable allies. As a double-liner, Lance already possesses an incredible amount of magic power, allowing him to cast effects such as teleportation, transmogrification, or even silence. However, he eventually becomes a triple-liner, which further elevates his control over his abilities.
Lance sets himself apart from other spellcasters with his mastery of his magic,Graviole. This magic allows Lance to manipulate gravity at a precise level, letting him access an arsenal of moves that can hinder his opponents or accelerate his movements. Lance can cast Graviole in select areas (Sectional), as a destructive barrage (Chain Epicurus), or even as poles that can precisely manipulate gravity (Secondth: Torture Pole). Upon his ascension into a third-liner in theMashlestory, Lance unlocks his Summon: Nemesis, unleashing the God of the Stars as a powerful ally. Such was Lance’s power level that Innocent Zero was initially doubtful that someone of his caliber was a mere first-year student.
