Nintendo has had quite the first quarter of 2021, releasing some big games that Switch owners have loved so far, such asSuper Mario 3D World +Bowser’s Fury. Though some players may have experiencedSuper Mario 3D Worldon the Wii U, this Switch port includes nice side content in the form of theshort but funBowser’s Furymode.
Due in-part to many Switch owners skipping out on the Wii U entirely, a lot of players are experiencingSuper Mario 3D Worldfor the first time. So many players, in fact, thatSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyhas topped the Nintendo Switch downloadable games list in Europe for the month of February 2021, beating titles likeAmong Us,Minecraft, andMario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The Top 15 downloadable Switch games chart comes by way of Nintendo, which sent out a news memo to Switch owners not long ago.Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s fury takes the first place slot, followed byAmong Uson Switchin second place andMinecraftin third.Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyeven topped the juggernaut that isMario Kart 8 Deluxe, which consistently places high on sales charts from the NPD group. It just goes to show that plenty of Switch owners are hungry for anySuper Mariocontent.
Super Mario3D World +Bowser’s Furyis selling incredibly well in a variety of territories. At the tail-end of February,Super Mario3D Worldlead sales in Japan, beating out titles likeRing Fit Adventure,Animal Crossing: New Horizons, andMario Kart 8 Deluxe. It helps thatSuper Mario 3D Worldis one of Nintendo’s most solidMarioplatformers, with great level design, mechanics, and gameplay. The Switch port of the game even tweaked some of the mechanics, such as the overall movement speed, which makes for a smoother, snappier experience.
The rest of the Top 15 list is not too surprising, but some standout titles makethe list includingLittle Nightmares 2at number seven, which has been well-received by both players and critics. Mainstay Switch titles such asAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsandPokemon Swordmake the list as well, which is unsurprising considering how popular those franchises are. Additionally, another new release managed to crack the top ten, withBravely Default 2coming in at number nine just aboveSuper Mario Party.
BeneathSuper Mario PartyisSuper Mario 3D All-Stars, thenHades, followed byBreath of the WildandNew Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. However, coming in at the final spot on the list is anothernew release,Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection. All in all, the list isn’t too surprising, with many of the games being new releases for February 2021 or being very popular games that play well on Switch. Still, it’s nice to see Nintendo’s flagship series taking the top spot after some time.
