Summary
Supermanactor David Corenswet’s Man of Steel suit has been given its best look yet courtesy of new set photos. The latest images also unveiled a glimpse at another classic DC Comics character in full costume.
With James Gunn’sSupermanofficially in production, fans are eager to see glimpses at Corenswet’s Man of Steel and the ensemble cast of DC characters. With Superman set to launch the feature film division of Gunn’s new DC Universe (DCU), fans are interested in seeing how Gunn plans to adapt the iconic costumes of Superman and his superhero cohorts now thatZack Snyder’s DCEU is officially in the rearview mirror.

While Corenswet’s full Superman suit was revealed in early May 2024, new set photos taken by Joshua Gunter and shared byCleveland.comconfirm some new details on the Man of Steel’s latest costume. As seen in some of the images, Corenswet’s Superman suit will include the yellow “S” symbol on the back of the cape. While this is not an unusual feature in the Superman suit seen in some comics, the yellow “S” was notably absent on thecape for Henry Cavill’s Superman. However, he is far from the only live-action Superman to omit this detail on the suit. The images also give fans a clear look at Corenswet’s Superman suit in broad daylight, unlike the official image unveiled by Gunn earlier in the Spring.
Furthermore, theSupermanset photos revealed Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific in full costume. While previously releasedSupermanset footage seemingly teased Mister Terrificin action, these new photos reveal Gunn has seemingly chosen to practically translate Mister Terrific’s costume directly from page to screen. The images also provide glimpses of fire trucks, soldiers in action, and rubble on the streets of Metropolis, suggesting a battle is ensuing between an unknown villain, Superman, and his DC contemporaries.
Gunn has been criticized for including multiple DC characters in Superman’s first solo movie for the new DCU. With Mister Terrific being joined by Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan’s Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and multiple Daily Planet characters, some fans are concerned Superman could get lost in the ensemble. However, Gunn pointed toThe40-Year-Old Virginto defend Superman, arguing the comedy film was able to include several characters (more than hisSupermanmovie) without diminishing lead actor Steve Carell’s screen time.
Fans must wait until next year to see if Gunn is right or if their concerns are well-founded. While the animatedCreature CommandoesTV series is the first DCU project on the release schedule, Superman is the first feature film from the new DCU franchise and arguably most likely to set the stage for Gunn’s take on DC’s beloved characters. While some Snyderverse fans are still upset that Snyder was never able to complete his vision, others are glad to move on from the divisive DCEU and start fresh with a new leader. All eyes are on Gunn’sSupermanto determine whether theGuardians of the Galaxydirector was the right choice to move DC in a new direction or if DC will continue to struggle to match Marvel Studios' success.
Supermanis scheduled to be released in theaters on Jun 30, 2025.
