The most recent episode ofThe Book Of Boba Fettsaw the return of several fan-favorite characters. Fans of the Disney Plus series were delighted to see Luke Skywalker helping little Grogu take his first steps in becoming a Jedi, as well as the return of Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. The episode ended with another familiar face when feared Duros bounty hunter Cad Bane made his live-action debut.
In the episode ofStar Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, appropriately titled “From the Desert Comes a Stranger,“Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) travels to the small town of Mos Pelgo, AKA Freetown, to recruitMarshal Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant)in the upcoming war with The Pyke syndicate. After unsuccessfully trying to sway the Marshal, Djarin leaves, but before Vanth and his townsfolk can put their feet up and have a nice glass of spotchka, a familiar blue face walks into town.

While fans ofStar Wars: The Clone Warswere excited to see the return of the legendary Cad Bane, some were quick to point out that there was something off about him. Translating aStar Warscharacter from animated to live-actionis always tricky, as they’re never going to look exactly like their previous incarnation. However, one YouTube channel decided to take it upon themselves to give the live-action Cad Bane a digital makeover, successfully replicating hisClone Warsappearance. The video uploaded to the YouTube channel,Cinematic Captures, is titled “Cad Bane Rework|Clone Wars Style.”
It shows a digitally altered version ofThe Book Of Boba Fett’s Cad Bane that makes him look more like he did in theStar Wars: The Clone Warsanimated series. The video even offers a side-by-side comparison, and the difference is quite stark. One of the major complaints about Bane’s live-action appearance was the tone of his iconic blue skin. InThe Book of Boba Fettepisode 6,Bane’s skin is noticeably a much lighter shade of blue than his animated counterpart, and his face is a slightly different shape.
Whether these changes were by design or just an unintentional outcome of adapting the character to live-action is unclear, but this isn’t the first time a YouTuber has outdone the visual effects for aStar WarsTV show. Last year a YouTuber who goes by the name Shamook made headlines when they were hired by Lucasfilm after creating a deepfake of Luke Skywalker that proved to be more convincing than the version seen in theseason two finale ofThe Mandalorian.
In fact, some viewers were quick to point out that the Luke Skwalker inThe Book Of Boba Fettis more convincing than the one inThe Mandalorian,so it looks like Lucasfilm made the right call. Perhaps they can hire the talented folks over atCinematic Captures. Judging by their YouTube page, they are hugeStar Warsfans and their channel features several impressive videos using Unreal Engine and other VFX tools.
