Right off the bat, it’s important to note that thePersonaseries makes up some of the best games that the medium has to offer, and that if they were to come to the Nintendo Switch, they would absolutely be welcome additions to the platform. That said, while they’d probably be Switch best-sellers for quite a while after their release, the Switch doesn’t necessarily need thePersonaseries. There has been plenty of voiced demand by the franchise’s community to port titles likePersona 5,Persona 5 Royal, andPersona 4 Goldento the console, but the Switch is doing just fine without them.
The Switch is a versatile console and seems to be perfect for playinglong RPGs like thePersonagamesbecause of how easy it is to pick up a Switch and immediately start playing. Although bringingPersonagames to the Switch seems like a no-brainer, there’s already plenty of content thatPersonafans would enjoy on the platform. Adding the games would be a great addition to the console’s library, sure, but it might cause fans to miss out on playing other games that are just as good and easily comparable.

The Switch Hosts Plenty of RPGs and Visual Novels
Persona’s genre is a little bit hard to nail down succinctly as it merges a handful of popular genres together for different sections of the gameplay. At the end of the day, the games are boiled down to a mix of turn-based RPGs and visual novels, two genres that the Switch is in no short supply of. Fans of the turn-based sections of thePersonaseries should take a look at the manyFinal Fantasytitles on the console. They should also check outNeo: The World Ends With You, a title that receivedplenty ofPersona 5comparisonswhen it was initially revealed.
Visual novels are in high supply on the Switch, but not everyone is comparable to thePersonaseries. WhenDanganronpa Decadancereleases on the Switch later this yearPersonafans should consider giving it a tryas it also blends qualities of visual novels with other genres. At the end of the day, there are plenty of games that fans ofPersonacould find on the Switch that could scratch the itch that the games have given them.

There’s Already Some Persona Content on the Switch
While there aren’t any mainlinePersonaentries on the Switch, the console did receivePersona 5 Strikersearlier this year. Although not the 100 plus hour turn-based RPG that is the franchise’s usual, the game was still a meaty experience that felt like a satisfying sequel toPersona 5. What’s more,Shin Megami Tensei 5is coming exclusively to the Switchlater this year and is the mainline series that thePersonafranchise is a spin-off from. While the two differ in plenty of ways, they still share a lot of the same DNA.
There isn’t a lot ofPersonacontent on the Switch itself, but there’s just enough to give fans a taste of the franchise. The series would definitely be a great fit for the platform, but it seems like itsmainline entries are going to stay as Sony exclusivesfor the time being. There’s no shortage of rumors surrounding announcements of an eventual Switch port forPersona 5orPersona 5 Royal, but there hasn’t been official word from Atlus yet if that’s the case. There might be some news later this year as the company celebratesPersona’s 25th anniversary, but that’s still to be seen and the company hasn’t given out much information yet.
