One of the most anticipated Netflix shows of the year is set to premiere next month on Friday, December 20.The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, has a considerable amount of hype behind it, and is poised to be one of the streaming service’s biggest shows yet. And if the show is as successful as many anticipate it will be, it seems likeThe Witcherwill be releasing new episodes on Netflix for some time to come.

The Witchershowrunner Lauren Hissrichhas revealed that she has seven seasons worth of story planned for the show. “I’ve [mapped out stories] for seven seasons. Right now it’s just about, ‘How do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?’ The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to,” she told SFX magazine.

The WitcherNetflix series is based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, which is also where the popular CD Projekt RED video game series got its inspiration from. As of the time of this writing, there are a number of short stories about Geralt of Rivia, not to mention five full-length novels. Considering how much source material there is to work with, it’s not surprising that Hissrich has managed to map out seven seasons worth of story forThe WitcherNetflix series.

WhileThe WitcherNetflix series is based on the books, video game fans are understandably excited for the show as well. The show appears to be paying homage to the video game series as well, as evidenced by theGeralt bathtub scene. One of the most famous scenes fromThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntfeatures Geralt taking a bath, and the upcoming Netflix series looks to be recreating that scene for the show.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see other references toThe Witchervideo games in the upcoming Netflix series. After all,Henry Cavill is a gamer himself, having famously almost missed the callback to play Superman in the DCEU because he was too busy playingWorld of Warcraft. However, fans will have to wait untilThe Witcher’s season 1 premiere to see if there’s any other video game references hidden in the show or not.
