Grand Theft Auto Onlinehas remained popular since its release, however, a certain way of playing the title has recently spiked the popularity ofGTA. Since early 2019,role-playing servershave become extremely popular amongGrand Theft Autoplayers, and now even celebrities are joining in the fun. Celebrities like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Travis Scott have even created their own characters and joined RP servers.
Grand Theft AutoRP servers allow players to create private games where everyone can customize their character down to their profession. RP servers usually come with a few rules and operate roughly like a normal society. Unlike normalGTAOnline servers, players are not running around killing everybody and making missions impossible to complete.

There are a few well-known RP servers that many streamers play on. The NoPixel server is among the most popular, with big name streamers included in it such as Shroud, MoonMoon, Skkyuno, and most recentlyTwitch streamer Valkyrae. NBA star Kevin Durant recently became involved in the New Hanover RP server and sent out a tweet recruiting members and police roles. The New Hanover server is based on Rockstar’sRed Dead Redemption 2and features dedicated roles like firemen, police officers, transportation workers, civilians and more.
Los Angeles Lakers players LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been in talks about playing in RP servers. During fellow Lakers player Dennis Schröder’sCall of Dutystream, James called Davis to see if he was playing on the GrizzleyWorld server, a private light RP server run by rapper Tee Grizzley. James usually does not stream his gaming, but has been seen playingNBA 2Kand has surprised fans onhis son Bronny James' Twitch stream.
SBB World is another RP server that many big names have joined. Lebron’s son frequently streams on the server andmusic artist Travis Scotthas shared his experiences learning how to RP on the SBB World server with a few content creators. While many content creators are involved with the most popular servers, it seems like more celebrities may be joining in.
Grand Theft AutoRP servers allow players to have a completely unique experience within the title with the help of mods. Many of the RP servers run on the FiveM mod, which allows for personalization over the dedicated server. However, running a popular server can get costly. Recently a manager of theNoPixel RP server revealed the insane costrequired to run such a frequently used server.
