One of the things that makeTriangle Strategysuch a varied game is the number of different units players can recruit to their party. Every now and then, players will have character stories pop up on the map screen. Several of these will feature new characters looking to join Serenoa on their quest.

Which characters players get is dependent onhow they’ve invested into Serenoa’s convictions, but players could reasonably get most of the optional ones on their first playthrough, provided they pick fairly balanced speech options. Every character can be extremely helpful if the playstyle is right, but some characters are worth putting on the team at all times.

8Piccoletta

Piccoletta is a tricky character to use effectively, and it will require some investment in buying items, but she can be really effective. Rather than putting herself directly in harm’s way, Piccoletta can summon a clone of herself that will move and act for her.

On top of this, she can launch items get distances, meaning she can hit many enemies with debuffing or damaging items. As she progresses her skills and ispromoted with a Medal of Bravery, she can trigger her clones to explode, or switch places with them, if she needs to move in a hurry.

7Ezana

Ezana’s powers offer a deadly combination. As her introductory cutscene establishes, she can summon weather effects onto the battlefield briefly. With her rain ability, she can extinguish flaming tiles and make new ones into water tiles. This is great because normally, players would have to make the terrain icy and then use fire on it to turn it into water.

This ability pairs well with her strong lightning attack. Despite being a single-target attack, lightning spreads through any connecting tiles with water, meaning whole groups of enemies can get a shock. Failing that, she can also use a wind attack that forces enemies to face a different direction and makes critical damage much easier to achieve.

6Jens

The blacksmith fromthe Encampment, Jens doesn’t have many damage-dealing abilities, but he can control the battlefield if used effectively. His main ability is his trap-setting. Three traps can be set at once, and they launch any enemy who steps on them in a certain direction. If that enemy hits a wall or another unit, they will take damage.

While the damage is a nice bonus, the main use for this is to keep enemies away from critical areas or at least delay their approach. It can stop players' units from getting surrounded. His other main ability is that he can build ladders, which allow units to gain height quickly.

5Hossabara

Hossabara is an interesting unit because the game somewhat misunderstands what she’s good for. When Hossabara is introduced, she is presented as a pure healer. She certainly has a great healing ability, but she is a surprisingly great attacker as well.

On the healing front, she has an ability that can heal both herself and any ally adjacent to her, which is extremely valuable. However, she gets amazing offensive abilities too. She can damage multiple enemies at once or even push them back a significant amount.

4Medina

Medina is another character focused on using items. For 3 TP on her turn, she can use two items in one turn, essentially making her a more limited version of Anna, however, Medina has abilities that aid her item use. She can increase the range at which she can launch items and throw items that can’t usually be thrown.

Her other abilities allow some items to do things they normally wouldn’t. For example, she can make poison recovery items poison enemies. Additionally, she makes healing items more effective and at high levels, can restore TP when using healing items, too.

3Archibald

More archers are always useful to have around, as they can strike from safe spots and protect melee units in trouble. He has very limited movement, but his range is exceptional, and if players can find a vantage point for him, he will be unstoppable.

Triangle Strategy Medina

He deals more damage the further an enemy is from him, and one of his abilities allows him to shoot whilst ignoring enemy defense. He can stop enemies slipping through his fingers too by decreasing their evasion and then immediately getting to act again. Players will need to plan ahead to make the most out of what he has to offer, but it’s worth it.

2Julio

Julio has a double-hit of uses that makes him one of the best optional units. First off, quite simply, he can hit very hard with his sword. He’s not as good as Serenoa on this front, but his melee attacks can deal some serious damage if his weapon sees some upgrades, andequips some attack-boosting items.

What makes him a must-have, though, is his ability to manipulate TP of both allies and enemies. Giving TP to allies can really make the difference in battle, especially since magic users are only effective when they have a decent supply of TP to pull from. He can drain enemies of their TP as well, which can prevent some devastating attacks.

1Narve

One ofthe earliest alliesplayers are likely to come across, Narve is the kind of unit thatstays useful from start to finish. A powerful magic user that can devastate opposing forces, Narve is unique amongst spellcasters, as he gets access to spells from all four elements.

Since he doesn’t have to focus on just one, he can exploit enemy weaknesses but also manipulate the terrain and secondary effects to boost his future attacks. In case that wasn’t great enough, he starts off a healing ability that heals multiple allies too.
