FamousTwitchstreamer Felix Lengyel, otherwise known as xQc, became visibly angered in front of an audience of tens of thousands when his attempt to beat Forsen’sMinecraftrecord fell short. Boasting over 11 million followers, xQc is seen as one of the most influential figures onTwitchsince he retired from professionalOverwatchin 2019 to pursue a return to full-time streaming.

Lengyel is very much acquianted with Twitch drama, including his September 2022 breakup with streamer Adept which caused a rift between many of the site’s top creators. He’s been banned from the platform multiple times, and has faced plenty of criticism due to his promotion of gambling to a predominantly young audience. Compared to these controversies, thisMinecraftclip is comparatively tame.

In this clip, xQc is seen inMinecraftdigging gravel to obtain flint. This would allow him to make a flint and steel, which he can use to enter the Nether and continue with the next part of theMinecraftspeedrun, where the end-goal is to eventually kill the Ender Dragon in as short a time as possible. xQc gets extremely unlucky, and doesn’t manage to find flint in time for him to still be able to beat Forsen’s record. As soon as he realizes the run is dead, xQc flips out, smashing his table in frustration and stopping the timer.

He smashed 27 blocks of gravel without flint in total. With a 10% chance of flint per gravel, that’s a 5.8% chance one would not receive flint from that amount of blocks. No wonder he gets so frustrated. There are plenty ofgames that use RNG as a gameplay mechanic, but it’s a form of frustration for speedrunners. One can practice for thousands of hours, and it can make no difference if luck isn’t on one’s side. It’s why so many popular speedrun games are heavily mechanic-based, players prefer to feel that both their achievements and failures are a result of their own skill rather than an unlucky draw.

Despite the streamer’s rage, it’s good to see someone genuinely care about the game, even if he could handle his frustrations better. Forsen’s record currently stands at 20:38, which due to the level of luck involved will be extremely hard for xQc to overcome. The rivalry between the two has been building for some time, and if xQc is able to beat the record, Forsen will surely return to reclaim the crown. With theMinecraftscene as popular as ever, it’s a rivalry that is showing no signs of slowing down.
