There are a lot of Viking-themed shenanigans to get up to inValheim. Developer Iron Gate has created an open world survival game full of crafting and slaying mythical beasts. However, for the more passive players out there, taming wild animals is also an option inValheim.

With the titlebreaking a milestone of 5 million Steam sales, there are plenty of fans enjoying the game. Some of those playing will want to collect various beasts and add them to their settlements. Of these are the Lox, which are large and fluffy animals similar to a buffalo or rhinoceros. While there is no real benefit to taming these creatures, they will no doubt add flair to a player’s town.

To start, aspiring tamers must head to Plains biome ofValheim’smassive mapto locate the Lox. Keep in mind, these animals can scare easy which might cause some troubles. A fearful Lox will attack a Viking, potentially resulting in death, an unideal scenario. Fortunately, as long as players move stealthily, it is not really difficult to sneak up on a Lox. If enjoyingthe game with friends, make sure everyone moves quietly while approaching the beast.

Like many of the other animals in the game, taming one requires a pen. These are used to keep a creature in one location so the player can tame it over time. The problem is, Lox are much stronger than average beasts like boars. While wooden pens may be easier to craft in the game, this material will not be effective against a Lox. In fact, the hulking creature can smash through a wooden pen instantly, leading to a waste of time and resources. Therefore, focus on bringing plenty of stone so the Viking can build a stronger pen out of this material.

Assuming the Lox is now safely within the pen, players can begin to work on taming it. One quick note, if the animal is still aggressive make sure to wait until it is calm before attempting the next step. Vikings will need vegetation to appease the beast, so either grab some orjoin up with friendsand have an ally do it. Look for barley, flax, and cloudberries since these are the best treats for a hungry Lox. Keep giving it food and eventually it will begin to like the player. This is all that is necessary to fully tame the creature, and keep giving it food to maintain the status.

There is a breeding system in the title as well, for many of the tamable animals. However, this has not been added to the game yet for the Lox. SinceValheim’sroadmap is not super specific, there is always the chance this feature could come later. As of right now though, getting a Lox in a pen and feeding it is about all players can do.
