Marvelhas dominated the movie industry for the past few years, and this has led to a renewed push intoMarvelvideo games as well. While many early games and particularly movie tie-in games don’t have the best history, the latest selection of games have been seminal knock-outs. FromSpider-MantoGuardians of the Galaxy, most of the recent games have left a huge impact on fans.
Indeed, it’s actually saddening thatGuardians of the Galaxywon’t get DLC. Many underestimated the game ahead of launch, just for it to top several personal Game of the Year lists. It was a seminal release for 2021, and many fans may be curious what to expect in 2022. From news and reveals, to continued support forMarvel’s Avengers, and the release of only one Marvel game (as confirmed so far), it’ll still be a big year.

Marvel’s Avengersis a live-service game from Square Enix, one which launched to tons of criticism but has slowly improved over time. Few would consider it “redeemed,” but the dedication of Square Enix and its continued support is nice to see. Luckily, fans also have pretty clear expectations for early 2022: a new roadmap, detailing operations, content, and more. More characters and raids are likely for this year too, though may be more dispersed or fall later in the year. Recent leaks, which have had some accuracy but should be taken with a grain of salt, suggest the nextMarvel’s Avengerscharacters could be She-Hulk, Winter Soldier, and Captain Marvel.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns Is The Marvel Release of the Year
The only new release slated for this year isMarvel’s Midnight Suns, anXCOM-style Marvel gamewith a wide selection of characters, squads of three, and decks of ability cards, and a customizable hero known as The Hunter (with selectable powers). Story-wise, The Avengers and other characters have to team up with the PC to stop Lilith, the Mother of All Demons, after being awakened by Hydra. The Hunter, as her child, is the only one capable of stopping her.
It’s set to release in the second half of 2022, meaning fans can expect a news cycle for it to build up in the months prior, content and features to be detailed around mid-to-later summer, and new details, trailers, and more to emerge. It’ll likely be the main Marvel focus on the year, unless there is some surprising announcement. As a game with decks and a somewhat niche-style of gameplay, it’s easy to underestimateMarvel’s Midnight Sunsright now, butGuardians of the Galaxyreviewsprove that may not be the best approach.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 May Get More News Near The End of 2022
A lot of eyes are on Insomniac Games’ run of Marvel titles, especially as the originalSpider-Manset the new gold standard.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2now is set for release in 2023, and with playable Peter Parker and Miles Morales, hints of Kraven and Venom, and more, there’s easily a lot of hype. The key thing is that it’s not certain if Spider-Man 2 is an early 2023 release (likeHorizon Forbidden Westearly) or a fall 2023 release (probably likeGod of War: Ragnarokthis year).

If it’s the former, fans can expect more news in the second half of the year, a transition from aGoWfocus to aSpider-Manfocus, and much more by the end of the year an into the next. If it’s the latter, there will likely be exponentially less news, but a trailer or two isn’t out of the question.
Marvel’s Wolverine Will Stay Quiet For Now
WhenInsomniac announcedMarvel’s Wolverine, fans were indubitably shocked. It hadn’t leaked or anything, and it came out of nowhere. To also confirmSpider-Man 2in the same presentation was nothing short of a power play, but whileSpider-Man 2has a release window,Marvel’s Wolverinedoes not. It’s likely to stay quiet this year, perhaps with one or two bits of news coming out, but nothing major. A trailer isn’t impossible, but fans would be better off not expecting too much. Still, good things come to those who wait, and waiting forWolverinewill almost surely pay off in the end.
Will Skydance Confirm Its Marvel Game?
While any announcements this year are likely guesswork, fans do know thatMarvel has partnered with Skydance New Media(led by co-creator, writer, and director of theUnchartedseries, Amy Hennig) on a new AAA Marvel game. Skyance New Media’s focus is “story-focused interactive entertainment,” and that somewhat gives fans an idea what to expect. The biggest rumor is thata newDaredevilgame is in developmentby Skydance, and that is something fans have been begging for. It remains to be seen, but hopefully, a confirmation could come this year.
Skydance New Media was founded in November 2019, with the Marvel partnership announced in October 2021 (but probably effective before then). Fans shouldn’t expect its release this year, as a couple more years of development is likely, but a short trailer confirming the title would certainly be welcome.
