Animal Crossing: New Horizonsjust wrapped up its Toy Day event, which is the last major event in the game before the start of the new year. WithAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsnearing its 1 year anniversary and having already gone through most major holidays, many expected Toy Day to be the last major new event in the game. However, Nintendo has confirmed that there aremore big updates planned forAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsin 2021, and one has to imagine that this could very well include an event themed after Valentine’s Day.
SinceAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsoriginally launched in March of 2020, it came out a month after Valentine’s Day took place. This coming February 14 will mark the first Valentine’s Day whenAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswas out, and so it stands to reason that Nintendo may take advantage of the opportunity to launch another event in the game. If Nintendo does decide to host anAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsValentine’s Day event, there are many different ways it can make the event one to remember.

Based on what Nintendo has done with pastAnimal CrossingValentine’s Day events, here is what we want to see fromAnimal Crossing: New Horizons' Valentine’s Day event (assuming it happens at all, that is).

Valentine’s Day Cards and Gifts
One of the main aspects of Valentine’s Day is giving out cards, candy, and gifts to significant others and friends, so it’s quite likely something similar will happen inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Perhaps players will be able to purchase special Valentine’s Day postcards from theAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsairport, which they can then send to other players as well as their villagers. Alternatively, maybeAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers will have to hand-deliver their gifts, similarly to what happened with theToy Day event.
Once Valentine’s Day arrives,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers will likely get gifts in return as well. In pastAnimal Crossinggames, the gifts and cards were often limited to villagers of the opposite sex of the player, but perhaps this year can be a bit more lenient. MaybeAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers can look forward to getting gifts from all of their villagers, regardless of their sex, this coming Valentine’s Day.

PastAnimal CrossingValentine’s Day eventssaw the quality of the gift players received vary depending on their relationship with the villager in question. This could be brought back, encouraging players to treat their villagers well and build their relationships if they want to get the highest-quality gifts possible.
Return of Pete and Brewster
Animal Crossing: New Horizonsuses its big updates to bring back NPCs from past games, with Toy Day bringing backJingle the reindeer, for example. There hasn’t been an NPC themed after Valentine’s Day in previousAnimal Crossingvideo games, so maybeAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswill introduce a brand new NPC for the holiday. Then again, it could capitalize on the festivities by bringing back some NPCs that have at least been somewhat involved in Valentine’s Day in games past, even if they weren’t exclusively themed for it.
One NPCAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscould bring back for Valentine’s Day is Pete the pelican. Pete has long been the mailman forAnimal Crossinggames, appearing in the original all the way throughNew Leafon the 3DS. For one reason or another, Pete has been left out ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, but he has played a key role in past Valentine’s Day events, being the one to deliver the cards and gifts to everyone.
Another NPC that has played a big role in previousAnimal CrossingValentine’s Day events but is not themed after the holiday is Brewster.Animal Crossingfans have been asking forBrewster and his coffee shopto be added toNew Horizonsfor some time now, but he has yet to make his debut. In bothAnimal Crossing: City FolkandAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, Brewster served players hot chocolate on Valentine’s Day instead of the usual coffee.
Valentine’s Day Furniture
While it remains to be seen which NPCs will be used inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons' possible Valentine’s Day event, it’s almost a certainty that the holiday will see new items added to the game for players to collect. Similarly to how there were plenty ofAnimal CrossingChristmas items available inNew Horizons, it’s quite likely that there will be Valentine’s Day-themed furniture as well.
It’s possible thatAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswill have new DIY recipes that players will have to complete to build the Valentine’s Day furniture in the game. Alternatively, maybe the Valentine’s Day furniture and items will primarily be purchased fromNook’s Crannyor earned by completing event-related tasks. Whatever the case may be,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsevents always deliver new items, and so fans of the game will likely have that to look forward to at the very least.
Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
