The newSystem Shockremake from Nightdive Studios has been in the works for almost seven years, with several delays and even a complete shift in development occurring within that time. Finally, however, fans of the original dystopian cyberpunk FPS have gotten a faithful remake of the 1994 classic. Everything, from the level design to the weapons, have been given a brand new and yet fitting coat of paint by 2023 standards.

Speaking of the weapons in particular,System Shockis very much aDoom-style run and gun shooter, with each weapon fulfilling its own role in the game. to obtain these weapons, players are expected to explore each level of the Citadel to their fullest, battling demented enemies and completing challenging puzzles along the way. Here is a rundown of every weapon players can expect to find in theSystem Shockremake.

System Shock Lead Pipe

Like in the original game, the Lead Pipe is the first weapon that the Hacker acquires after waking up on the Citadel. It can be picked up in a storage closet in the starting room, alongside some other important items.

A fundamentalSystem Shocktipis that this weapon should be dropped as soon as the Laser Rapier is found. While not one of the better weapons in the game, the Lead Pipe is essentially the player’s bread and butter for most of the medical level, as ammo is rather scarce early on.

Monkey Wrench

The Monkey Wrench is, for all intents and purposes, the exact same weapon as the Leap Pipe, although it does a little more damage but has a slightly shorter attack range. The weapon is found near a corpse on the northwestern corner of the medical level. Picking it up will award the player with the Gut Wrenching achievement; however, other than this, there is little to no reason to use this weapon after a certain point unless the player is going for a “wrench only” playthrough.

ML-41 Minipistol

As one of the more generic weapons inSystem Shock, the ML-41 Minipistol can be found in a variety of locations throughout the game. It can be found on dead bodies, in armories, secret rooms, etc. The first one the player will likely find, however, lies in the central room on the medical level. Next to the switch that unlocks the large gate leading to the elevator, there is a door that reveals a small storage room below the main area.

The Minipistol can be found on the floor next to a mutant quietly snacking on a nameless medical worker’s corpse.

TB-05 Sparqbeam Sidearm

The Sparqbeam is one of the more useful weapons for much ofSystem Shock’s campaigndue to its easily replenished supply of ammo (the player’s own power meter). Like the Minipistol, the Sparqbeam is found at numerous points throughout the Citadel and is considered one of the more common weapons in the game.

The player can find one rather easily on the medical level in Dr. Nathan D’arcy’s room, which lies in the central hub area. His room is easily viewable from the main floor and can be accessed via the lift just to the right of the large “BETA” sign.

System Shock Monkey Wrench

JW-74 Mag Pulse Rifle

To find the Pulse Rifle, the player needs to visit the armory in the Delta quadrant of the medical deck the door is marked by a yellow symbol on the wall. The doors to the armory can only be unlocked by accessing the cyberspace terminal at the far end of the room.

The Pulse Rifle is one of the most useful weapons inSystem Shocksince it deals 60 damage and ignores 100% of armor. Ammo is scarce, so it is best saved for key encounters with robot enemies (specifically ones that have shields).

System Shock Minipistol

Magnum 2100

The Magnum 2100 is kind of like the Desert Eagle ofSystem Shock. It’s a chunky pistol that’s powerful enough to serve as the occasional primary despite its relatively short magazine size and scarce ammo. Most players will find it on the maintenance level first, but it can actually be found in a hidden room on the medical deck if the security level is brought down to zero.

This secret door can be found along the Eastern wall of the large room across the laser bridge in the Southeastern corner of the map. Unfortunately, the pistol isn’t loaded, so the player will have to find ammo as they go.

SK-27 Shotgun

Everyold-school style FPSneeds a good shotgun, andSystem Shockcertainly delivers on this front. The SK-27 is somewhat common around the Citadel, as is its ammo supply (which consists of both normal and Dragon’s Breath rounds).

It can be found rather easily in the alpha quadrant of the research floor. It lies in the contaminated room across from Dr. Nathan D’arcy’s office next to a corpse. While ammo is not the most common, it is reasonably plentiful enough to where the player would be justified in keeping the SK-27 Shotgun around.

DG-04 Laser Rapier

The Laser Rapier is one of the standout weapons ofSystem Shockdue to both its damage output and ease of use. Not only is it by far the strongest melee weapon in the game, it relies only on the player’s energy reserve to function.

Laser Rapiers can be found at a few points on the Citadel, however, they aren’t all the same. The one on the maintenance level (go through the door just to the left of the elevator and follow the ladder up) has a blue laser; meanwhile, the one on the executive level (in the square room to the far southeast) features a laser color that’s dependent on the color of the player’s HUD when they first pick it up.

System Shock Pulse Rifle

KF-18 Scorpion

The Scorpion is likely going to be the player’s first fully automatic weapon that they find. Using the same relatively common ammo as the Minipistol, the Scorpion is a compact little submachine gun that deals a reasonable amount of damage per second, and it can take both normal and Teflon-coated rounds.

The earliest the player can obtain one is on the storage deck, where they will have to complete a series of puzzles to open the door just to the left of storage bay five.

EM-83 Grenade Launcher

Throwing grenades can be kind of iffy in theSystem Shockremake. Thankfully, however, there is the EM-83 Grenade Launcher that the player can find on the storage level if they look carefully. The EM-83 can launch all types of grenades found in the game: frag, gas, smoke, and EMP grenades.

It will launch them much further than the player can throw them, and it causes grenades to explode on impact rather than roll around. It can be found in storage bay 1 in an open cubby on the wall below all the laser bridges.
