Summary
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is just a few weeks away now, and Sledgehammer is continuing to drip-feed fans new information seemingly right up until the game drops on November 10. Over the last two weekends, fans have managed to get their hands onCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3for the first time thanks to its two beta periods, and the general reception to the new entry seems to be pretty positive. But whileModern Warfare 3’s betahas given fans a good idea of what they can expect on launch, the game’s post-launch plans are still a little unclear.
Ever sinceCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s reveal back in August, Sledgehammer has made numerous comments about the game’s post-launch plans, with some original 6v6 maps slated to be coming to the game at some point, along with potentially some new game modes. But while these comments have come from Sledgehammer itself, no plans have been really set in stone yet, though that hasn’t stopped a ton of leaks and rumors hitting the internet, some of which claim thatCall of Duty: Black Ops 2might end up finding its way toModern Warfare 3in some form.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Could Bring Black Ops 2 Back in a Big Way
According to some very recent leaks,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is going to be bringing back a number of classicCall of Dutytitles in the form of post-launch seasonal content. Apparently, the first up to bat inModern Warfare 3’s first Season will be 2014’sCall of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sledgehammer’s very first soloCoDproject. If the leak is to be believed, then this first Season will see a number ofAdvanced Warfareweapons make a return, with the BAL27, MORS, and EM1 all being mentioned specifically.
With16 remasteredMW2mapscoming to the game, along with the return of some iconic series characters in its campaign mode,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is already shaping up to be quite the celebration of the franchise’s long history, which does give some slight credence to this leak. And ifModern Warfare 3is celebrating the franchise’s best entries, there are few quite as beloved asCall of Duty: Black Ops 2, a title that many fans still regard as one of the best in the entire series.
While the leak didn’t mention too much about what would actually come toCall of Duty:Modern Warfare 3during these themed Seasons, it did mention that a few classic weapons would be coming to the game. So, ifCall of Duty: Black Ops 2ended up being the subject of one ofMW3’s post-launch Seasons, then fans could probably expect to see weapons like the M8A1, the SMR, the LSAT, the MSMC, and maybe even some specials like the Ballistic Knife. ThoughBlack Ops 2had a near-future aesthetic, that near-future is practically here, with the game being set in 2025. As such, most ofBlack Ops 2’s “futuristic” weapons look as though they’d already fit right in withModern Warfare 3’s arsenal.
But if Sledgehammer wanted to go truly above and beyond with its rumoredCall of Duty: Black Ops 2Season, then it could even throw in a remastered map or two. There are plenty of iconicBlack Ops 2maps to pick from, but it’s maps like Standoff, Nuketown 2025, and Hijacked that would really get fans excited. It’s also rumored thatCall of Duty’s 2025 entrywill apparently remaster all ofBlack Ops 2’s maps just likeModern Warfare 3is doing withMW2, and if that’s the case then this potential Season could only be a tease of things to come.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3launches on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
