World of Warcraft: Dragonflightis fast approaching its release date, and the Public Test Realm today opened the doors to Dracthyr Evokers for the first time. The class roster inWorld of Warcrafthas evolved a lot over the years, fromWrath of the Lich Kingadding the Death KnighttoMists of PandariaandLegionadding the Monk and Demon Hunter, respectively. On November 15, the Evokers ofDragonflightfinally enter the fray to redefine yet another niche ofWarcraft’s power fantasies.

What Evokers bring to the tapestry ofclasses inWorld of Warcraftis their connection to the powers of the Aspects. They are draconic spellcasters with draconic power, channeling the might of all five Dragonflights with appropriately-themed spells and abilities. The Devastation Evoker represents the damage-dealing specialization of the new Hero Class and is connected to the Blue and Red Dragonflights. Conversely, the Preservation Evoker is the healing specialization and takes its powers primarily from the Green and Bronze Dragonflights. Though this effectively closes the door on a Mage healing specialization, time-based healing magic is finally here.

For a few hours on the Public Test Realm today, players were accidentally allowed to create their own Dracthyr Evokers a few days early. Spotted by Wowhead and the Reddit community forWorld of Warcraft, it didn’t take long for players to flock onto the game and make a character, but it also didn’t take long for Blizzard Entertainment to realize the mistake it made. The decision was soon overturned, and manyWorld of Warcraftfans ended up disappointed they could no longer give the new Hero Class a try.

The players that made theirDracthyr Evokersin time were allowed to keep them, as Blizzard did not roll back the servers, nor did it delete the existing characters on the Public Test Realm yet. With Evokers unlocking in just a few days from now on the official live servers, it probably isn’t worth aggravating the community. Fans who may not be enthused about the new class but otherwise like the Dracthyr will end up disappointed that the new race can only be one class – but this disappointment might not last forever.

The development team at Blizzard has strongly hinted that the Dracthyr may become unlocked for other classes in the very near future. A hint is not necessarily a confirmation, but it’s obvious that Blizzard Entertainment is aware that a large section ofWorld of Warcraftplayers would want to create Dracthyr Huntersand Priests, or even Mages for a more classical spellcaster take. For now, players will have the Evoker to master when it becomes available to all who purchasedDragonflighton November 15.
