The game has come far off from the NES and its humble beginnings utilizing top-down gameplay.

Some fans likely recall that Nintendo gave a glimpse of itsupcomingSuper Mario RPGremakeduring the June 2023 Nintendo Direct. Remasters, remakes, and re-releases are popular in this day and age due to the advancement of hardware. This has prompted many gamers and developers to consider the possibilities of which other titles in the Nintendo library could receive a fresh coat of polish at some point—The Legend of Zeldaincluded. On this note,Zelda’s producer gave his insights on the topic of remakes from the franchise’s history.

In an exclusive interview by RTLniuews withLegend of Zeldafranchise producer Eiji Aonuma, he stated that a lot of what makesTears of the Kingdomwork is because it was born from ideas in the past. He then mentioned that it was hard to stay anything about the future but that the team always tried to offer more than what existed in previous productions. Sadly, his final remarks were to confirm that the developers are not really concerned with the older games anymore.

While these statements are representative of how Aonuma sees the franchise moving forward, Nintendo has previously released a few remakes and remasters of some older titles. TheclassicLegend of Zeldagames remade for modern consoleswere successful during their time of release. It may be a stretch to declare some of the titles as “remakes” since most just received HD textures or updated control options. However, the visual leap from some, likeLink’s Awakening, was huge enough and did introduce some quality-of-life improvements.

With this in mind, it would really be a huge deal should Aonuma reconsider his stance on remakes. A few fans have hoped thatThe Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventurescould receive a huge upgradeand be released for Switch consoles.Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Linkhas huge potential if it ever comes out with a modern engine. A lot ofZeldagames are timeless and could give young gamers a brand-new experience if Nintendo gave them a chance. Hopefully, the developers can change their minds about more remakes in the future.
